Is my data secure?

Yes — we take this seriously. Here's what that means in plain English:

  • Your password is scrambled the moment you type it, so even we can't read it. If you forget it, we can't tell you what it was — we can only help you set a new one.
  • Everything between your browser and us is encrypted, so no-one on the network (your coffee-shop wifi, your phone provider, anyone in between) can see what you're doing.
  • Your account is fenced off from everyone else's. Even if another user logged in at the same time, there's no way for them to see your days, your locations, or anything else.
  • We keep outsiders to a minimum. Card payments go directly to Stripe — we never see your card details. Emails are sent via a single dedicated provider. Nothing else about your data leaves our servers.
  • Accountant share links are safe. They only show one tax year, they expire on a date you pick, and you can cancel them instantly from the dashboard.
Where is my data stored?

Your data lives on dedicated servers in Germany, with encrypted backups replicated to Finland.

We don't use AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or any other hyperscale cloud provider. We like knowing exactly which rack, in which building, in which country our customers' data sits — that's not a guarantee you get with cloud services. It also means your data stays inside the EU and under EU/GDPR jurisdiction, full stop.

Can I delete my data?

Yes, at any time — and we mean actually delete, not deactivate.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Scroll to the Delete account section at the bottom.
  3. Type your email to confirm and enter your current password.
  4. Click Delete my account.

When you confirm, everything we hold about you disappears in one go — your logged days, your location history, your SRT answers, any accountant share links, and all our email records for you. If you have an active subscription, we cancel it for you at the same time. Our backups in Finland are rolled over within 30 days, so your data is fully gone from every copy we keep by then too.

What if I need more help?

Use the contact form below this FAQ. Messages go straight to a human inbox — we aim to reply within 48 hours (usually much sooner on weekdays).

If it's urgent and about billing or account access, mention that in the subject and we'll prioritise it.

Why don't we have an app?

We've thought about it, but decided against it — for now, at least.

A native app would give us permission to track you in the background, pull your location continuously, and send you notifications whether you asked for them or not. That's the opposite of what we're building. Tax Residency Checker is a tool for people who want to own their day-count evidence, not a tool that watches you.

The good news: you don't need one. You can add Tax Residency Checker to your phone's home screen in a couple of taps, and it behaves like any other app — its own icon, opens full-screen, no browser bars cluttering the view — just without the spying bits.

How to install it:

  • iPhone / iPad (Safari): tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, then tap Add to Home Screen.
  • Android (Chrome): tap the ⋮ menu (top-right), then tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
  • Desktop (Chrome / Edge): click the install icon in the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install Tax Residency Checker…

Once installed, it opens from your home screen exactly like any other app.
